Bangkok Post, Tailandia Comenzamos con el resumen de noticias del presente mes de abril donde podremos ver temas ya mencionados anteriormente pero que siguen causando expectación en la actualidad. Este es el caso de los actos vandálicos del EI, quienes durante este periodo de tiempo han continuado destruyendo algunas ciudades PM y a su vez, utilizando bienes muebles para contrabando  1   2   3   4   5   6   7   8   9   10   11 . No sólo tenemos estos actos de vandalismo en este tiempo, también han resultado sorprendentes las pintadas en templos de la región de Nara y en estatuas de Buddah pertenecientes a otros lugares Patrimonio Mundial tales como Hasedera y Okadera 1   2 . Neil Silberman is coordinator of projects and policy initiatives in the Centre for Heritage and Society of the University of Massachusetts- Amherst (USA), and one of his founders. He is also professor of the Department of Anthropology of that university and president of the ICOMOS International Scientific Committee on Interpretation and Presentation. Besides, he is editor and co-editor of several reviews such as Oxford Companion to Archaeology or Heritage and Society. Neil Silberman es actualmente coordinador de proyectos e iniciativas políticas del Centro para el Patrimonio y la Sociedad de la University of Massachusetts-Amherst (EEUU), y uno de los fundadores del mismo. Es también profesor del Departamento de Antropología de la citada universidad y presidente del Comité científico Internacional sobre Interpretación y Presentación del ICOMOS. The Statue of Liberty NYC SFO, eight thirty am. Heading back home after two weeks in the USA. The excuse for this trip, the meeting of the SAA; a business gathering over four thousand archaeologists.  This has been a very interesting anthropological experience. Segregation, gentrification, exclusion and a bit of heritage, just a bit. In the way I could see, far away, a World Heritage Site; the Statue of Liberty. I saw it from Battery Park because the price and the large queue made me wonder how valuable was my little time in the great apple. What are the values of the Statue? While I was deciding if queuing or not, I had the opportunity to talk with a couple of Spaniards and another one of Dutch, both in their wedding trip. When asking why were they visiting the Statue, both answered the same: it is one of the things you must visit when you come to NYC. Al fondo... La Estatua de la Libertad Aeropuerto de San Francisco, ocho de la mañana. Llevo tres horas levantado, pero esta vez he decidido hacerlo así para atenuar un poco el jet lag cuando vuelva. A ver si funciona. Llevo dos semanas en los Estados Unidos, primero en Nueva York y ahora en San Francisco. Vuelvo a casa. La excusa de este viaje ha sido un congreso, la reunión de la Sociedad Americana de Arqueología; un negocio que ha reunido a más de cuatro mil personas en la ciudad. Lo cierto es que ha sido una experiencia interesante desde el punto de vista antropológico. Segregación, gentrificación, exclusión y un poco de patrimonio, muy poco. Por el camino, pude ver de lejos un sitio Patrimonio Mundial, la Estatua de la Libertad. La vi de lejos porque el precio y la larga cola de turistas me llevaban a plantearme cuán valioso era mi poco tiempo en la gran manzana. ¿Cuáles son los valores de la estatua?
